Short answer: Add real photos of your finished work, your team, and your trucks, taken in good light and uploaded regularly. Before and after shots work especially well. Skip stock photos and graphics with lots of text. Customers trust what looks real.
When people compare contractors on Google, they look at the photos before they read anything. A profile with fresh, real photos looks busy and trustworthy. A profile with three blurry photos from years ago looks closed.
The photos every contractor profile needs
- Logo: clear and square, so it reads well at small sizes.
- Cover photo: your best finished job or your team on site.
- Finished work: lots of it, across all your main services.
- Before and after: the most convincing photos you can post.
- Team and trucks: shows customers who will show up at their door.
How to take good photos on a phone
- Wipe the lens. It sounds obvious and fixes most blurry photos.
- Shoot in daylight, with the light behind you.
- Hold the phone level and step back to show the whole job.
- Clear tools and debris out of the frame.
- Take the before and after from the same spot.
How often to upload
Add a few new photos every week or two. A steady stream keeps your profile current and gives searchers something new to look at. It also fits naturally into a weekly post about a recent job.
What to avoid
- Stock photos. They look generic and can make you seem less real.
- Graphics covered in text, prices, or phone numbers.
- Photos with customersβ faces or house numbers without permission.
- Very dark, blurry, or sideways photos.
Customer photos
Customers can add photos to your profile too, usually with a review. You cannot control them, but you can encourage them: when a homeowner is happy with the result, invite them to add a photo with their review.
If a customer photo is inappropriate or not of your business, you can report it to Google.
Use the same photos everywhere
The best job photos should also go on your website and social media. Read how photos and videos help your contracting business rank for how to name and use them on your site.
Name your photos before you upload
It takes a few seconds and keeps things organized: rename files to describe the job, like “kitchen-remodel-grafton-ma.jpg,” before uploading them to your website and profile.
It will not make or break your rankings on its own, but it is a good habit that helps on your website, and it makes it much easier to find the right photo later for a post, an estimate, or an ad.
Keep your best photos in one shared folder, sorted by service and town. Your future self, or whoever helps with your marketing, will thank you.
Check what is working
Your Google Business Profile performance report shows how people interact with your listing. Watch whether calls, website clicks, and direction requests rise as you add photos regularly.
