Short answer: Once people see your listing, three things decide whether they call: whether you look trustworthy (reviews and photos), whether you clearly do what they need (services and description), and whether calling is easy and safe (accurate hours, a working number, fast answers). Tighten those and the same views produce more calls.
Your Google Business Profile performance report shows how many people viewed your listing and how many called. If views are decent but calls are low, the problem is not visibility. It is conversion.
Win the first glance
- A strong cover photo of real finished work, not a logo on a blank background.
- A recent review visible near the top, ideally mentioning the job and town.
- A rating and review count that compares well to the businesses next to you.
People decide in seconds, usually by comparing you with the two other businesses on the screen.
Make it obvious you do their job
List every service individually, with a short description. Write a business description that names your main services and towns. If someone searching “water heater replacement” sees it listed on your profile, they are far more likely to call.
Make calling feel easy and safe
- Accurate hours, including whether you take emergency calls.
- A local number that is answered, or forwarded to someone who answers.
- Messaging turned on only if you will reply quickly.
- A booking or quote link for people who prefer not to call.
Answer every call, or follow up fast
The most common reason listings “do not work” is unanswered calls. Use a missed-call text-back so anyone who reaches voicemail gets an immediate text. Many will reply and book.
Use posts to give a reason to call now
A post with a timely offer, like a fall furnace tune-up special with an end date and a Call button, gives people a reason to act today instead of saving you for later.
Reply to reviews
Replies show that a real, responsive person runs the business. A calm, helpful reply to a negative review often reassures people more than another 5-star review.
Keep photos fresh
New photos every week or two keep your profile looking active. See how to add photos that get results.
Quick wins you can do this week
- Replace your cover photo with your best recent job.
- Reply to every review from the last three months.
- Add any services missing from your list.
- Post one recent job with a Call button.
- Call your own number from the listing to make sure it rings through and someone answers.
Each takes minutes, and together they make a noticeable difference in how your listing compares with the two next to it.
Measure the change
Check your profileβs performance report monthly. Compare calls to views before and after your changes. Even a small improvement in that ratio adds up to many more calls over a year, without needing more visibility.
